After completing her thesis, Susan embarked on her journey at Axini. In this interview, she shares her experiences—from her first impressions to her growth over the past few months!

What is your role at Axini?

I am a software engineer in the tech team. Additionally, I am part of the R&E team. My work mainly consists of software engineering, but I also take on other tasks, such as supervising students who are writing their theses with us.

How do you look back on your first 100 days?

Since I also wrote my thesis at Axini, I’ve been around for a year already. But you're right—these were my first 100 days as a software engineer. I already knew the company and the people, so I was sure from the start that I was in the right place 😉. Now, I’ve also become familiar with the workflow, and I really enjoy it!

What are the most important things you’ve learned in your first months?

Mainly the workflow and rituals at Axini, such as sprint transitions, the stand-up, code reviews, and retrospectives. Additionally, I’m getting to know the codebase better every day. I’ve realized that I enjoy working on the backend more than the frontend.

Are there any specific projects you’ve worked on that you found particularly interesting?

For the first time, I’m part of a real "feature team," where we collaborate to build something new for the customer. I really enjoy this. I get energy from working with colleagues, especially when we develop something that brings significant value to the customer.

For example, we are currently working on a new type of "coverage." Our tool has always tracked which transitions in a model are covered by a test run. Now, my feature team is working on tracking which labels are covered. This project is especially interesting because it touches on many aspects of our codebase and tech stack—from implementing new functionality in the backend to transferring and storing data in the database and then displaying it on the frontend. I have learned a lot from this!

What are you most looking forward to in the coming months?

I’m excited about visiting our customers, for instance, when we deliver training on AMP and AML.

Thank you, Susan van den Broek!
